Google Photos has been around for a long time but in the era of AI-powered features, Google announced that its AI-powered editing tools such as the Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur, Portrait Light and others will be free to use on Google Photos. It will begin on 15 May 2024.

Since it will be free, that means no subscription required when using the tool on Google Photos. However, there is a catch. Android and iOS Google Photos users will only get 10 Magic Editor saves per month. So if you want to use it more than 10 times, you will need a Pixel device or a Premium Google One plan (2TB and above). The Magic Editor will be free to use on all Pixel devices.

To recap, the Magic Editor can assist the user in many ways to have a greater photo without having to delete and retake. For example, Photo Unblur can get rid of blurred shots and make the image clearer. The Magic Eraser can make an unwanted object or subject disappear in the background, and finally, Portrait Light can help correct the brightness and shadows in portrait photos.

Besides Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur and Portrait Light, below is the official list of other AI-powered tools that are coming as well:

  • Sky suggestions
  • Color pop
  • HDR effect for photos & videos
  • Portrait blur
  • Cinematic photos
  • Styles in collage editor
  • Video effects
