As many of you know, the free 15GB cloud you get with your Google account is shared across Google Drive, Gmail, and Photos. Interestingly, photos and videos you upload to Google Photos didn't count, which has been a boon for those who have a lot of those. But Google has announced that it will be changing that policy starting 1 June 2021.
After the change, all photos and videos uploaded to Google Photos will count towards your storage capacity. This means that if you exceed the free 15GB storage limit, you're going to have to pay for a Google One subscription to store more files. Fortunately, all photos and videos you've already uploaded in high-quality mode will not be counted. By the way, high quality is the setting for Google Photos that compresses your photos and videos.
It should also be noted that those who have a Google Pixel smartphone will not have to worry about this change, which makes this a major advantage for the series when the change happens next year. Once the changes take place, Google will also release a new tool to let you manage your files. A useful feature it has is filtering the blurry pictures, so you can quickly delete those.
If you use Google Photos a lot, do take note of the changes and prepare accordingly. You may want to migrate over to a better cloud storage service when the time comes.
