Today, Grab Malaysia has officially launched its first fleet of electric vehicles (EVs) dedicated to airport transfers. It was unveiled at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and officiated by the Ministry of Transport.

First-of-its-Kind EV Airport Ride Option

Available exclusively for outbound travellers from KLIA, the EV ride option can now be booked directly through the Grab app. The fleet features the BYD M6, a 7-seater electric MPV that promises a quieter, smoother, and more spacious ride. The vehicle’s third-row seats can be folded down to create a flat cargo space, perfect for accommodating larger luggage.

Strategic Collaboration for a Greener Future

Grab’s electrification efforts are made possible through collaborations with key ecosystem partners, including BYD Sime Motors, Yinson GreenTech, and Power-Up Tech (P.UP). Together, they aim to fast-track the adoption of EVs in Malaysia by making electric mobility a viable, visible, and user-friendly option for the public.

“We are proud to support Malaysia’s green mobility push with the introduction of an EV-only ride option for airport travellers,” said Rashid Shukor, Director of Country Operations and Mobility, Grab Malaysia. “This launch is an important milestone in shifting on-demand transport toward low or zero-emission modes as we work towards our carbon neutrality goal by 2040.”

Backed by National Transport Policy Goals

Minister of Transport YB Anthony Loke expressed strong support for the initiative, highlighting its alignment with national frameworks such as the National Transport Policy 2019–2030 and the MOT Strategic Plan 2021–2025.

“The launch of this EV fleet and dedicated airport ride option is a timely move that not only supports Malaysia’s sustainability agenda but also enhances the traveller experience at a major transport hub,” said the Minister. “Strong public-private partnerships like this are essential to accelerate the shift toward electric mobility.”

EV Lounge Debuts at KLIA

To elevate the user experience, Grab Malaysia has also introduced a dedicated EV Lounge at KLIA, offering passengers a comfortable space to relax while waiting for their ride. The lounge complements the new EV service by providing a premium touchpoint that encourages travellers to explore electric ride options.
