Food delivery is probably one of the services that people can't go without during the pandemic. To up the game, Grab has announced that it will start its pilot robot runner service at Paya Lebar Quarter Mall (a mall located in Singapore) to help in handling orders across several restaurants within the mall.

To know more about how it works, the robot is said to bring the orders from the restaurants in the mall to delivery partners that wait at a central collection point. With the robot, it is claimed that Grab delivery partners may save between five to fifteen minutes of the usual time taken to pick up orders by themselves in the mall. Not only it helps to save time for delivery partners, but it seems like Grab's delivery services could also be more efficient with the help of this new technology.

Grab has partnered with Techmetics Robotics in developing the Grab robot runner, which has the ability to learn about its surroundings through artificial intelligence (AI) and built-in Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) sensors. Therefore, the robot is capable of monitoring its immediate proximity in real-time to avoid sudden obstacles, not to mention that it also has an automated voice message that alerts shoppers of its presence. Grab will start the pilot test in the second week of June and we hope that it becomes a successful one for the service to be launched in more regions.
