Grab might launch a new feature called Women-Only Rides (Beta), which allows female passengers to book rides with female drivers. This feature was introduced in an effort to improve the comfort and safety of female users when using the e-hailing service.

The verification process could take up to 3 working days

Currently, the function is only available in the Klang Valley and can be used through the Advance Booking feature in the Grab app. Through this early booking, Grab's system has time to match female passengers with available female driver partners.

The Women-Only Rides (Beta) feature is only visible to female users in the app. However, users must first ensure their gender has been declared in their Grab profile and complete the identity verification process in the app.

According to Grab, the verification process may take up to three working days before users can access the option. To make a booking, users only need to enter the pickup location and destination as usual. Then, in the ride options section under the “Standard” category, users can select Women-Only Rides (Beta) before setting the date and time of travel via Advance Booking.

It is not a guarantee, though

This trip is open to female passengers, either individually or in groups, as long as all passengers are female. Previously, Grab also introduced a Women Passengers Preferred (Beta) feature that gave female drivers the option to be matched with female passengers more often. However, the feature only increases the probability of a match and does not guarantee that a female driver will travel with a female driver.

In contrast, Women-Only Rides (Beta) is seen as a more specialised approach by providing travel booking options designed specifically for female passengers. At this time, Grab has not stated whether the feature will be expanded to other areas in Malaysia after this trial phase.
