The Grab and Uber merger has been made official as Grab takes over Uber's South East Asia operations while Uber gets a 27.5% stake in Grab. In short, this means that Uber users and drivers in Malaysia will be migrated over to Grab and GrabFood will take over from Uber Eats after the Uber app shuts down on 8 April 2018 while the Uber Eats app shuts down in May. Until then, you can still use Uber Eats or call a car or drive using the Uber app, but these are the grace periods for you to make the move to Grab.

The move will affect Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam while Taxi drivers and private hire car drivers can both use the Grab app with the option of GrabTaxi (Metered) for those who use metered fares. Grab is in the process of transferring or "onboarding" your data, so if you're feeling antsy you can still sign up as a Grab driver yourself. Completely new Grab driver are required to sign up. Only those who have been suspended or removed from Grab previously will not be allowed to re-register.

Grab have said that they will try to keep changes to a minimum so all Uber Eats restaurants will be listed in GrabFood and all app history and benefits will be retained along with payment structures. Check out the Grab site or the GrabFood site for more details.
