HONOR’s new Magic 8 and Magic 8 Pro smartphones are now official in China, with prices starting at CNY4499 (~RM3200) for the base model and CNY5699 (~RM4000) for the Pro. That said, what should you know about it?

For your information, these flagships bring a mix of advanced AI features, high-end camera systems, and long battery life built for today’s usage needs.

What’s new in the Magic 8 Series

HONOR positions the Magic 8 line as its AI-driven flagship series. A standout is the dedicated AI button built into the frame, which by default launches YOYO video calls. It can also be customised, for instance, a double-press can open the camera, while a tap can trigger an app or function of your choice.

Additionally, both phones run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, paired with up to 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage. On software, they ship with Android 16 layered under MagicOS 10.
Power is handled by large silicon-carbon batteries.

Furthermore, the standard Magic 8 houses a 7000mAh battery, while the Pro version ups that to 7200mAh. In China, wired charging supports up to 100W, while wireless charging goes up to 80W. HONOR claims its battery tech enables efficient energy use and sustained performance.

On the display front, the Magic 8 features a 6.58-inch LTPO OLED with a 120 Hz refresh rate and up to 6000nits of peak brightness. The Magic 8 Pro steps it up with a 6.71-inch quad-curved LTPO OLED, also 120 Hz and high brightness levels.

What about the cameras?

Camera-wise, the systems differ between the two. The Pro model gets a triple setup: a 50 MP primary camera (f/1.6, OIS), a 200 MP telephoto camera (3.7× optical, f/2.6), and a 50 MP ultrawide shooter.

Besides that, the regular Magic 8 retains the ultrawide lens but swaps in a 64MP telephoto (3×) and a downgraded 50MP main sensor. Both phones offer a 50MP front camera; the Pro also includes a 3D depth sensor for improved face recognition.

Other features include IP68 / IP69 / IP69K water and dust resistance, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC, and HONOR’s AI enhancements like Magic Color and image stabilisation.
