HTC recently announced their take on the action camera, the HTC RE. Shaped like a small periscope, the camera can take photos and record videos using a 16MP 1/2.3" CMOS sensor with 146-degree wide-angle lens at f/2.8. It has no on button, no viewfinder and works either on it's own or with both Android and iOS devices. Other tech specs include support for an up to 128GB microSD card and an 820 mAh battery. To turn it on, just hold it, the sensor on the grip will turn it on automatically. The only control on the RE is a large circular button on the corner, a short press takes a picture, a long press records a video and you can record 1080p video at 30fps or slow motion video at 720p.

The RE is quite small, measuring in at 96.7 x 26.5mm and weighing in at 65.5g. It has an IP57 rating so you can bring it underwater for 30 minutes and 1 meter depths. The RE connects via Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi and microUSB. It is compatible with Android 4.3 and above and iOS 7 or later, with plenty of accessories. No details yet on Malaysia release dates but it will be released in the US by the end of October 2014 and is currently available on pre-order (for the US) at $199 (RM643).
