So it's now official, the HTC U11 EYEs is the newest selfie smartphone featuring mid-range tier specs. Available in silver, red and black, it's not known if it will come to Malaysia or not, perhaps at a later date this year. Since it was launched simultaneously in Taiwan, China and Hong Kong, and it's priced at 14900 TWD (~RM1995), 3299 Yuan (~RM2028) and $3898 Hong Kong dollars (~RM1972) respectively. Below is the official specifications.

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 chipset
  • 4GB of RAM
  • 64GB internal storage (expandable memory available via microSD slot)
  • Measures 157.9 x 74.99 x 8.5 mm, weighs 185g
  • 6-inches Super LCD 3 Full HD display, 18:9 ratio
  • 12MP UltraPixel 3 main camera (f/1.7, dual-LED flash, OIS) | dual front 5MP + 5MP camera (f/2.2)
  • Features fingerprint scanner, Edge Sense, facial recognition, IP67 water and dust resistant grade, Quick Charge 3.0, dual SIM support, USB Type-C
  • Support NFC, Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, 4G LTE
  • HTC Sense UI based on Android 8.0 Oreo
  • 3930mAh battery

The design is very similar to the U11 series with its 3D glass panel behind, together with the IP67 rated chassis, the display is using a Corning Gorilla Protection 3 grade. The main highlight is the cameras, of course, aside from having Optical Image Stabilization, the main 12MP UltraPixel also uses ultrafast autofocus, HDR, a back-illuminated sensor (BSI), slow-motion video shooting, and 4K video shooting.

But probably the most interesting choice that HTC made was using a dual front 5MP + 5MP camera. We aren't sure of the picture quality but it does have the standard selfie features such as Beauty Mode, HDR, and a secondary bokeh effect lens. The selfie camera also supports full HD video recording, facial recognition and voice selfie.

Lastly, since it's using a USB Type-C port, that also means there's no 3.5mm headphone jack, but at least the box comes with a USonic Smart Sonar headphone that is said to feature an advanced sonar-like technology that can give the best audio experience by analyzing your ear's inner shape.
