At the IFA 2020, HUAWEI was supposed to announce the world's first commercial 5nm mobile processor at their keynote that happened on 3 September. However, it looks like the plan has changed as the 5nm process (a.k.a Kirin 1000) was nowhere to be found. It is reported that HUAWEI is trying to stay low profile to avoid drawing unnecessary attention.

Due to the trade sanctions, HUAWEI and their long-time partner in chip-making TSMC will no longer be working together after 14 September. Currently, the Taiwanese chip manufacturer is rushing to fulfill previous HUAWEI orders before the day comes. With that said, the Kirin 1000 is also one of TSMC's works. Therefore, it all makes sense for HUAWEI to hold the launch first instead of rushing to launch the first 5nm process to avoid disputes.

Although HUAWEI didn't specify anything about the delay, it is reported that the chipset will eventually debut with the HUAWEI Mate 40 series in the next weeks. Rumour has it, the company currently has 15 million units in stock. It is also worth mentioning that Qualcomm is looking for a way to get permission from the US government to supply its chipsets to Huawei. If it all works out, the HUAWEI P50 could be the first flagship series to come with Snapdragon chipsets.
