Unlike Samsung, HUAWEI only design chipsets without involving themselves in the manufacturing part. Therefore, the aftermath caused by the U.S. ban brought a rather big impact on the company's chip supply. Earlier, it was reported that the Kirin 9000 will be HUAWEI's last flagship chip. Now, the Chinese tech giant might be stepping out of the comfort zone and try to start manufacturing chips.
According to the source, HUAWEI is planning to build a chip factory in Shanghai that does not use American technology. Insiders are saying that the manufacturing plant is expected to start with manufacturing low-end 45nm chips. The source also mentions that HUAWEI's goal is to manufacture 28nm chips for Internet of Things equipment by the end of 2021, and 20nm chips for 5G telecom equipment by the end of 2022.

Since mid-September, the company no longer has access to the supply of 5nm Kirin 9000 chipsets from TSMC. The company has ordered 15 million units of the mentioned chipset from the manufacturing plant but could only get 8.8 million units at the end. However, with this news surfacing, we hope that HUAWEI will start manufacturing their own cutting-edge chipsets one day.
