Apart from selling telecommunications equipment and consumer electronics, HUAWEI is now focusing on the automobile industry too. It is reported that the Chinese tech giant invests heavily in smart car solutions and one of them is to create cost-effective LiDAR technology.

If you're not familiar with the term LiDAR, it's actually short for 'light detection and ranging'. The technology is crucial for self-driving cars by using light in the form of pulsing lasers to measure the distance from an obstacle. As announced by the company’s auto division head Wang Jun, the company sets to reduce the cost of radar sensors to 100 USD (~RM419) in the future with the current ones ranging from 400 (~RM1,677) to 500 USD (~RM2,096).

With the company's investment in the field, it is believed that it could help the Chinese brand to establish a more significant role in the smart vehicle industry.
