HUAWEI is touted to announce the HarmonyOS NEXT, a homegrown and Android-free OS during its developer conference next month. A beta version of the OS is expected to launch in said event, with a full rollout in September.

Well, the latter is based on claims by reliable tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo. According to GizmoChina which sourced the tipster, the OS will also be compatible with “candy bar flagships, foldable flagships, mid-range smartphones, tablets and watches.

HarmonyOS NEXT will be ditching the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) codebase completely. Instead, it will utilise HUAWEI’s self-developed Hongmeng kernel and system applications, hence Android apps would still be compatible.

Of course, do take this with a grain of salt as nothing is confirmed yet. Until the official announcement from HUAWEI, stay tuned to TechNave for the latest trending tech news such as this.
