Earlier this week, it was announced that Half-Life: Alyx will be Valve's next flagship virtual reality (VR) game. While that is not so exciting for many Half-Life fans (me) who are still waiting for the third sequel, Valve has just dropped the first trailer and oh my goodness - it looks damn amazing! They may not be joking after all for saying it's a flagship VR game. Let's check out what we know so far.
According to the developers of the VR game, Half-Life: Alyx was "designed from the ground up" and judging from the trailer, it still pretty much retain the puzzle-solving mechanics and nasty "zombies" in the familiar Half-Life universe. We also learn that the events will take place between Half-Life 1 and 2, so it wasn't after Half-Life: Episode 2 after all which is a bit of a bummer. Anyway, the story follows "Alyx Vance and her father Eli mount an early resistance to the Combine's brutal occupation of Earth."
Slated for March-April 2020 release, the game will be compatible with every PC-based VR headsets. This includes SteamVR, HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and Windows Mixed Reality. Also if it wasn't obvious enough, you will play as Alyx and you can see her hands floating around as you take control of her shooting stuff with a rather interesting glove design showcasing your health bar. Such exciting times.
The pre-purchase is already up on Steam and if you're interested, early birds will get 10% off which is RM85.50 (RRP is RM95). Will you be getting one? We are pretty excited but we will have to get a VR headgear first (lol). And if Valve delivers, Half-Life Alyx could be THE VR game to make a breakthrough for this niche market.
