Hangouts Meet is officially rebranded as Google Meet

While Zoom is trying to fix up their problems, Google decided to change up their Hangouts Meet name to another for no apparent "reason". In case you didn't know Google Hangouts Meet has been around for many years and it's similar to Zoom. So from now on, it will be known as Google Meet.

What started as a hint, it was discovered at their blogpost calling Google Meet instead of Hangouts Meet on the title. People began to speculate until Google have officially confirmed that the rebrand of the name is happening but not in an overnight scenario. So in other words, the name change will take some time to roll out globally since the Apple App and Google Play Store still have the name Hangouts Meet.

As to why Google decided to change the name, they didn't really say why but we suspect that it has something to do with the Movement Control Order period where more people are starting to use video calls more than ever. Zoom is a good example of this and nobody notices Microsoft Teams. On the other hand, Google Meet is probably more recognizable as compared to Hangouts Meet. A
