Harvey Norman unveils Malaysia's first bedMATCH AI Technology and this is how it works

Today, we reported Harvey Norman launched its flagship store at Mid Valley Megamall with AI technology. Now, it's not going to be operated by automated AI robot assistants, but the store is now enhanced with AI assistance to help customers. Speaking of which, one of the AI assistant technologies is bedMATCH.

At first glance, bedMATCH looks like a smart mattress which other foreign countries have but that's not the case. bedMATCH is Harvey Norman's AI-powered smart sleep system that can help customers look for the perfect bed. So don't ask the staff there how much is it. If you have trouble looking for a good mattress recommendation, this is the way.

Enter some personal details before getting started

It will take a moment for the system to calibrate the bed

I managed to get a good understanding of how bedMATCH works. Basically, you can tell the staff there to help out. As seen in the pictures, there are two single beds which allows the AI system to help up to two people (like married couples). Alternatively, the AI system can also help analyse an individual on his or her needs. You will need to fill up some personal details about yourself through a computer first.

Once the AI system has finished configuring the preparations, you can start lying down on the mattress and let it do the work. It will take a few minutes as the AI system will measure your body's pressure, weight and spinal alignment. After five minutes, the data sent to the AI will then analyse your body and recommend what type of mattress you should take.

There is a monitor on the ceiling to let you know when it's ready

It's pretty wild to know how the AI can scan how you lay down on the mattress

The end results, mildly red!

Harvey Norman actually marked some beds with four different colours - yellow (for soft), green (medium), blue (firm) and red (very firm). For individuals, it will be easy to look for the colour codes but as for couples, the AI system would put the best balance for the recommended mattress quality. Most brands have already worked with Harvey Norman on that so you can check out the area there.

I also managed to have a short interview session with Ms Bernice Kwok, Managing Director, Harvey Norman Singapore & Malaysia, Mr Jonathan Toh, Chief Operating Officer, Harvey Norman Malaysia and Mr Eddy Ng, Lead General Manager, Harvey Norman Malaysia regarding the bedMATCH technology. Long story short, the Harvey Norman store in Mid Valley is the only retailer that has bedMATCH and will be expanded to other areas in due time.

Additionally, the bedMATCH technology is currently in its 3rd Generation and has gone through thousands of analyses. When asked if Harvey Norman has any plans for an actual smart mattress in the future, Mr Jonathan Toh revealed that it's quite unlikely as the technology is still in its infancy so for the time being, the bedMATCH technology is good enough as it will help those who need the perfect mattress.

As aforementioned, the bedMATCH technology is now available in Mid Valley Megamall (South Court, LG1) so you can try it out if you're there. Until then, stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
