Last night, Nintendo finally showcased the anticipated Switch 2 globally. The company released quite a lot of details, including upcoming compatible games and whatnot. Without further ado, here is the information that we know regarding the Malaysian market.

First, the Nintendo Switch 2 is officially launching on 5 June 2025, but that is only for the US market. As for Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and the Philippines, the Switch will be released between July and September this year. The standard Switch 2 is also priced at $449.99, which is around ~RM2,000, but no official price has been announced for Malaysia yet.

In terms of tech specs, the Switch 2 is bigger than the Switch. The LCD touchscreen is now 7.9 inches and supports 1080p resolution and up to a 120Hz refresh rate (if the game allows it). HDR10 support is also available, and when docked to the TV, the resolution goes up to 4K resolution (+60FPS). The custom processor is not specified but it was made by NVIDIA, while the internal storage is 256GB.

Nintendo said the stereo speakers are improved, and a new microphone has been added with noise cancellation, complimenting the new GameChat system, which allows gamers to chat online while playing together. It can be accessed by pressing the C button on the Joy-Con 2, additionally, the new controllers can also function as a mouse and can magnetically attach to the Switch 2.

Since the Switch 2 is bigger, that also means the battery has more power juice, packed with 5,220 mAh (a jump from 4,310 mAh). Moreover, it supports WiFi 6 connectivity and has two USB C ports. While the microSD card support is still there, Nintendo specifically said it is only compatible with microSD Express cards (up to 2TB).

Nintendo is preparing to launch two sets of Switch 2 variants. One is the standard Switch 2 that we mentioned earlier, while the other is the Switch 2 + Mario Kart World Bundle at $499.99 (~RM2.2K). According to sources, some exclusive Switch 2 games will be expensive. The newly announced Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza cost $79.99 (~RM350) and $69.99 (~RM310), respectively. This is not the first time, though, as The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was the first on the system to be priced at 70 bucks.

Despite that, Nintendo confirmed it is working to launch local online services, including the Nintendo Switch Online and the Nintendo eShop in the aforementioned four Asian countries, so that's great. It has also been confirmed that the majority of Switch games are compatible with the Switch 2. However, many games won't simply get an upgrade, as there are some announced as Switch 2 Edition.

There is still some time left before Switch 2 officially comes to Malaysia. Until then, do stay tuned for more official news at TechNave.com.
