With the popularity of e-wallets, Petronas launched the Setel app in 2018 as a way for Malaysian drivers and riders to quickly complete payments without having to queue at the counter. But what is Setel Lite, and what does it do?

Before we get to that, let's have a recap of what the Setel app does. Besides making cashless payments, it also integrates with the Mesra Card so that users can earn loyalty points. It has many other features too, such as paying for parking, road tax, motor insurance, purchases at a Petronas shop and more. However, some of these aren't that important or useful for some users, as they want to use the Setel App just to pay for fuel.

This is where Setel Lite comes in. As the name suggests, it has fewer features than the standard app and is easier to use. This Lite version also takes up less space and mobile data, focusing mainly on refuelling. So it's perfect for users who just want to refuel their vehicles.

The way to purchase fuel on Setel Lite is easy, just follow the steps below:

  1. Go to any Petronas station, and Setel Lite will automatically detect which petrol station is located. Then tap on "Purchase Fuel"
  2. After reading the guidelines, tap "Got it", and then select the Pump number
  3. Select the amount of fuel you're paying for
  4. After completing the payment, refuel your car. You can also earn MESRA points if you've linked your MESRA card

And that's basically it! From our experience, it was super easy using Setel Lite. According to Setel, this Lite version is expected to be released in the second quarter of this year.
