If you still play on your old Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, you probably have heard the news that Nintendo is planning to shut down the eShop in March 2023. You may have a lot of questions too if you can still play your games or not. Well, here's everything you need to know.

In March 2023, the eShop for the New Nintendo 3DS, New Nintendo 3DS XL, New Nintendo 2DS XL, Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo 3DS XL, Nintendo 2DS, Wii U Deluxe, and Wii U Basic will be discontinued. That means you won't be able to purchase nor download any games by that time. Furthermore, you also can't use a credit card to add funds to your account for those consoles.

That said, gamers will still be able to redeem download codes until late March 2023. But later on 29 August 2022, it will no longer be possible to use a Nintendo eShop Card to add funds to an account in Nintendo eShop on Wii U or the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. There won't be any changes planned for Nintendo eShop on the Nintendo Switch family of systems.

For the Nintendo Network ID wallet, gamers who link it with their Nintendo Account wallet with the Nintendo Switch family of systems can use the shared balance to purchase content on any of these systems until late March 2023. After that, the balance can only be used to purchase content for the Nintendo Switch family of systems.

Lastly, Nintendo said that even after March 2023, it is still possible to redownload (note: not download) games and DLC, receive software updates and enjoy online play on the Wii U and 3DS family of systems. If you would like to read the Q&A section, you can go over to this website here.
