It's been more than a year since MAE by Maybank was introduced in Malaysia. To further enhance the finance experience, the company have officially launched a new MAE by Maybank app as well as a new MAE Visa Debit card to help Malaysians take charge of their daily money management. Here's everything you need to know about it.

Before we begin on the app and card, it's important to note that the MAE app will replace the Maybank2U app eventually, as Maybank have embedded Maybank2U within this new app. For the time being, the new app will give the users the chance to get used to the new experiences. There is no fixed timeline when Maybank will eventually stop offering the existing Maybank2u app.

Starting with the new MAE Visa Debit card, this card complements the MAE eWallet and features a few benefits such as competitive foreign exchange rates and other rewards from locally and overseas via ATMs. For overseas usage, the MAE eWallet will auto-convert to the country where the user is in, adding convenience to know how much the item is available. Interested customers may apply for the debit card (RM8) via the MAE app and it will be delivered to their homes.

As for the brand new MAE by Maybank app, it is a new ecosystem designed by the company to assist Malaysians to manage their finance as aforementioned. One of the features that do this is the Expenses tab, providing the users with a view of what they have spent from Maybank cards to QR transactions and many more. Furthermore, there's also a Tabung feature that helps Maybank users to save up in a "fun" way and can even do so with friends and family towards a goal. There are no charges for using Tabung.

On top of that, Maybank also introduced Makan Mana Wheel that helps Malaysians to decide where to eat and enjoy promotions with their partner merchants. There are also three new micro-spending Boosters which are:

  • Spare Change - which rounds up expenses and transfers the balance into Tabung
  • Scan & Save - which credits savings earned from promotions used during QR transactions
  • Guilty Pleasure - which allows you to set a daily spending limit in any category of your choice and an amount to be credited into your Tabung if the limit is exceeded

The MAE by Maybank2u app is available for download from the Google Play and Apple App Store. Existing Maybank customers are only required to undergo a simple security set-up, after which they can start using the app immediately from all their Maybank accounts automatically. Non-Maybank customers are able to conveniently open a MAE wallet via the app and complete the application without having to visit a branch as well.
