While we are in the midst of the pandemic, many people have come up with ways of doing their own face masks for the long term. Instead of using the usual blue face mask and throwing it away after a day, more and more people are opting for a hand-made cloth version and fashion designer, Chelsea Klukas just come up with the coolest one to date - an LED face mask!

Chelsea first did a DIY tutorial video on Lumen Couture (her company) YouTube channel back in April and has garnered a lot of attention. In terms of tech components, you will need a thin LED matrix screen and users can customize it to whatever shape and texts they want from a mobile app. A small battery is needed, of course, alongside a charging cord and it was proven to be a challenge to hide these stuff seamlessly.

If you are wondering how much it cost, they didn't disclose it but they did make about $5000 (~RM21,260) and donated it to the World Health Organization COVID-19 relief fund. According to Chelsea, most of the customers were males. By the way, there are other DIY LED face masks videos on YouTube as well so do check it out if you're interested.

Just for your information, Lumen Couture designs tech-enabled fashion apparels, so from dresses to hoodies, they all include LED lighting which looks really cool. Chelsea thinks that because of the pandemic, face mask could be a "new form of expression" and expect to see other fashion brands taking up. But what do you think?
