Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail today revealed that Malaysians will soon have the option to apply for a passport with a decade-long validity. He added that the Immigration Department is ready to introduce a 50-page passport with double the validity period as it is currently, like the ones by other Southeast Asian countries.
Malay Mail quoted Saifuddin as saying that the 10-year passport would be optional and you can still opt for the 5-year one. The former would cost extra and have more pages.

The Home Minister asserted that the Immigration Department found no issue with long-term passports during its study. More so, considering other countries like the United States, the United Kingdom, Italy and France have implemented them.
In this region, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand are already offering decade-long passport validity. However, Saifuddin didn’t mention the specific date of when the new passport validity will be offered, only saying that it’ll be “in the near future”.
