Home Minister: More autogates to be added at KLIA Terminal 1, 2 and Penang Airport to overcome congestion

The Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) has announced that the Immigration Department (JIM) will be adding more autogates at KLIA Terminal 1, KLIA Terminal 2 and Penang Airport. Its Minister, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution asserted that the move was meant to overcome congestion at Malaysia’s entry points. 

Bernama quoted Saifuddin as saying that a total of 40 new autogates will be added at KLIA Terminal 1 and KLIA Terminal 2. This will make the total number of autogates at the 2 terminals to 80. 

Meanwhile, the additional facilities at the Penang Airport are still bein identified and under deliberation. The KDN Minister said that the move was in line with the expansion of the autogate facility and also in preparation for Malaysia as ASEAN Chairman 2025 and Visit Malaysia Year 2026. 

Previously, Saifuddin had announced that visitors from another 36 low-risk countries would be allowed to use the autogates at all entry points in the countries that have the facility effective 1 June. The facility involves all European Union (EU) countries, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, Jordan, China, Canada, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
