The Home Ministry, in a statement today, encouraged tourists from six ASEAN countries and Timor Leste to use the autogate facilities at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminals 1 and 2. The ASEAN countries include Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines and Vietnam.

Moreover, tourists from Timor Leste, which is yet to join the international organisation, are also encouraged to use the autogate facilities. However, it seems that tourists from these 6 nations can only use the autogate for departing from Malaysia.

Bernama quoted the Home Ministry as saying that the facility was implemented on 15 February in preparation for receiving an increase in the number of international tourists in conjunction with Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2025 and Visit Malaysia Year 2026. Moreover, the move is in line with the MADANI government’s aspirations in strengthening the public service delivery system that is efficient, fast and based on courtesy to the people and foreign travellers.

The Home Ministry added that this expansion also supports the spirit of inclusivity and regional cooperation, especially in strengthening diplomatic and tourism relations between Malaysia and ASEAN countries and Timor Leste. Previously, the autogate facilities were provided to 63 countries, including two ASEAN countries, namely Singapore and Brunei. This means that citizens of 8 ASEAN countries can now use the autogate facilities at KLIA.
