Today, the Honor announced in China the new Honor V9, alongside the Honor 8 Lite. With specs rivalling that of the Huawei Mate 9, it comes at a lower price, but, not without some cut-down specifications, such as retaining last year’s dual 12MP rear camera instead of the newer 20MP+12MP combo. Here’s its full tech-specs:

  • Kirin 960 Processor
  • 4GB or 6GB of RAM
  • 64GB or 128GB of storage (microSD expandable up to 128GB)
  • 5.7-inch 2k display
  • Dual 12MP f/2.2 rear cameras
  • 8MP f/2.4 selfie camera
  • 4000mAh battery
  • Fingerprint reader
  • Android 7.0 Nougat with EMUI 5.0
  • 4 colour options, namely Gold, Black, Blue and Red

As with last year’s Honor V8, the new Honor V9 comes with the 2nd generation of professional eye protection technology for its screen, making it ideal for watching movies or playing games, especially with that large 4000mAh battery. This year though, it seems that all variants will have a QHD 2k display as standard.

The rear cameras, while retaining the same dual 12MP RGB and monochrome sensors as last year, have seen an upgrade in its video capabilities, as 4K video shooting is now available compared to last year’s FullHD (1080p) only option. Its selfie camera has a marginal improvement with a larger f/2.0 aperture too, compared to last year’s f/2.4.

As for pricing, the Honor V9 will come in three variants based on RAM and storage. Although, it seems that it had seen quite a price increase compared to last year’s model. Here are the details:

  • Honor V9 (4GB RAM + 64GB Storage ): 2599 Yuan (around RM1685)
  • Honor V9 (6GB RAM + 64GB Storage ): 2999 Yuan (around RM1945)
  • Honor V9 (6GB RAM + 128GB Storage ): 3499 Yuan (around RM2266)

While last year’s Honor V8 was a China-only affair, it had been rumoured that the Honor V9 will see an international launch, and will be marketed as the Honor 8 Pro. Well, let’s hope that really does happen. Stay tuned for future updates on the phone’s official Malaysia pricing and availability when that happens at TechNave.com!
