Honor may consider using more of MediaTek's 5G chipsets

The new Honor X10 smartphone was launched yesterday and it came with a mid-range 5G chipset that shows lots of promise. But having the option to choose is always good for a company and Honor seems to believe in that as well. The company seemingly hinted that it's not adverse to the idea of using more of MediaTek's 5G chipsets in upcoming devices.

According to Gizchina (via MyDrivers), Honor President Zhao Ming said that the company will cooperate with MediaTek's 5G chipset in the future. This is to ensure that the brand will have different platforms for customers to choose from. However, he didn't elaborate on whether this will be for mid-range or flagship devices.

MediaTek currently has the Dimensity 1000 series and 820 series 5G chipsets. If the goal is to use a more affordable 5G chipset to bring 5G connectivity to more people, then it's more likely that Honor will choose to go with the use of the Dimensity 820 series 5G chipsets. Mind you, this is very speculative and Zhao's statement was very vague, so we can't confirm anything right now.

Funny enough, the Dimensity 820 and Kirin 820 5G chipsets share the same number. With that said, what are your thoughts on this news? Would a MediaTek-based 5G device be better in some way? Let us know what you think on our Facebook page and stay tuned to TechNave.com for more news.
