Not clarifying terms and conditions for any product or service is often a bad move, as Maxis found out recently. The company launched its Hotlink Prepaid Unlimited pack a few days ago, promising unlimited internet access and calls. But as it turned out, it does have a certain limitation and many users were unhappy with the lack of transparency.

As you may know, many mobile data plans would throttle data speeds once a quota is reached. This is called Fair Usage Policy (FUP) and it can vary between companies. In the case of the Hotlink Prepaid Unlimited's internet passes, there's a 5GB cap for the daily pass, 15GB cap for the weekly pass, and 50GB for the monthly pass. The problem was that Hotlink initially failed to list these in its terms and conditions page.

The data cap for high-speed internet was not detailed at first

When users asked if about the FUP for the plan on the Hotlink Facebook page, the reply was that there was no cap to the quota. This led users to believe that the service was truly unlimited, only to be surprised when the data speed drop from 3Mbps to 512Kbps once they reached their quota. Hotlink has since backtracked and confirmed that there's a FUP attached to the plan, with the details now added to the Hotlink Prepaid Unlimited's FAQ page.

Now that the details have been clarified, those who opt-in for the plan can better budget their data usage and not be caught unaware. But with that said, what do you think about the whole situation? Let us know on our Facebook page and stay tuned to TechNave.com for more tech news.
