If you've been looking to pay your zakat fitrah rate this year (1447 Hijrah), you've come to the right place. New rates have been set by Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (JAKIM) for 2026. That said, what should you know about it?
Most states in Malaysia are maintaining a three-rate payment structure
For your information, the minimum rate can start as low as RM7.50 per person, while the highest rate reaches RM25, depending on the type of rice you eat. This rate is based on the current price of rice and the Baghdad bushel rate, which is equivalent to approximately 2.6 kilograms of rice, in line with Islamic law.
For this year of 2026, most states are maintaining a three-rate payment structure, namely the minimum mandatory rate and two higher rates for those who eat premium rice. For more information on the rates, you can refer to the MKN (Majlis Keselamatan Negara) website.
