We often caution you to take rumours with a grain of salt and there's a good reason for that. Take the Huawei Mate 40 series, for example. A few weeks ago, it was suggested that the device could come with a Kirin 1020 chipset. But the latest rumour claims that it'll be equipped with the Kirin 1000 chipset instead.

According to Teme, the Mate 40 series will be using Kirin 1000 chipsets manufactured by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC). It'll be based on a 5nm manufacturing process, so it should deliver some impressive performance gains. Also, it'll provide built-in 5G connectivity, along with other unannounced features.

Interestingly enough, some people are suggesting that there was never a Kirin 1020. The code number of flagship Kirin chipsets are always in increments of 10, so an upgrade from the Kirin 990 to the new Kirin 1000 makes sense. However, do note that brands and manufacturers skip numbers have skipped numbers before so it wouldn't be unusual if they decided to do so.

Of course, we'd also like to remind you that this is just a rumour and we can't confirm the exact chipset that Huawei intends to use. But one thing we're sure is that the Mate 40 series is likely going to have an impressive set of features. Having said that, would you be interested in getting the device?
