In China, Huawei released its latest MatePad Air (2025) as a featherweight productivity tablet. With a sleek aluminium build and AI-enhanced software, this new MatePad caters to creatives, students, and mobile professionals alike.
The Tech Specs
To begin, the tablet features a 12-inch “Cloud Clarity Soft Light” display, crafted to reduce reflections by 60% and eliminate 99% of glare. Additionally, it also has 2.8K resolution, P3 wide colour gamut, and HDR Vivid support, paired with adaptive refresh rates from 30 to 144 Hz and peak brightness of 1000 nits. Notably, the display is certified by TÜV Rheinland for low blue light and flicker-free operation, while the “Soft Light” version brings an added layer of eye comfort using anti-reflective technology.
Oddly, the official Huawei China website did not list the chipset. But it is probably powered by a Kirin SoC. Under the hood, it runs on HarmonyOS 4.2 and is built around Huawei’s AI assistant. This combination elevates workflow with features like:
- AI Writing Assistant for smart copy expansion
- Document Q&A and Summarisation tools for better comprehension
- Content Parsing, including academic PDF extraction and note-taking integration
- Productivity apps like WPS Office, CAJViewer, and Yi Tu Tu Shi are optimised for multitasking and AI efficiency
Powering all of this is a 10100 mAh battery backed by 66 W fast charging—enough for extended streaming, productivity, or content creation sessions. There is also a 50MP primary camera, while the front camera is just 8MP. On the audio front, six speakers tuned with Huawei SOUND deliver immersive stereo audio.
Other Features
The tablet is designed to pair seamlessly with Huawei’s third-generation M-Pencil—featuring ultra-low latency and advanced pressure sensitivity—and the ultra-thin Starlight Magnetic Keyboard (just 308 g).
Speaking of weight, the MatePad Air weighs in at just 555 grams and measures 5.9 mm thin.
Price and Availability
The Huawei MatePad Air is available in Sakura Pink, Botanical Green, Pure White, and Smoke Gray, with a starting price of 3999 Yuan (~RM1.7K) for the 12GB + 256GB WiFi model. It goes up to 3799 Yuan (~RM2.2K) with the 12GB + 512GB Soft Light WiFi edition.
Huawei might export this tablet to the Malaysian market. But we will have to wait and see. Until then, stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
