Huawei MateView GT review - 34-inch curved monitor for the gamers

As Huawei continues their expansion into new technological territories, the Huawei MateView GT monitor is one of the devices that looks to help make their mark. Featuring a 34-inch curved display with 165Hz refresh rate and a built-in dual speaker SoundBar it looks to offer plenty of RGB goodness and more for the wide desktop gamer. How much more does it deliver for RM2488? Find out in our review of the Huawei MateView GT below.

At 34-inches, the Huawei MateView GT is quite large compared to most monitors (which are generally still in the 22-inch to 24-inch size range). Clearly aimed at gamers with its 21:9 aspect ratio, 3440 x 1440 pixel resolution, 90% DCI-P3 and 165Hz refresh rate, colours are crystal clear and you can adjust the height of the monitor easily. Contrast ratio is 4000:1 while brightness is 350 nits.

The Huawei MateView GT has a dual speaker SoundBar built into the stand

You can adjust the strip in 8 different colours to suit all your RGB needs

Offering a more all-in-one functionality the stand has the 5W x 2 dual speaker SoundBar fixed to the front, along with a mood lighting strip you can adjust to your RGB needs. Touch controls on the soundbar makes it relatively painless to adjust volume. The monitor can also be detached and wall mounted if you want too as well. A sort of mini joystick is located on the chin so you can navigate the menu easier.

In terms of connections, the monitor comes 1x USB-C for data transfer and 10W charging, 1x USB-C for power, 2x HDMI 2.0, 1x DP1.4 port and a 3.5mm headset / microphone jack. In addition, the MateView GT also comes with two DMIC microphones.

Very slim bezels

Performance-wise the MateView GT delivers smooth practically flicker free display especially for gaming but the feature set doesn’t seem to indicate that it’s focused on anything else. You can use it for content creation but you may have some issues with colour accuracy. If you were to use this for just spreadsheets or watching movies it would certainly be nice but a bit of an overkill in our opinion.

Audio from the built-in SoundBar is good and clear but the fact that it’s affixed to the stand means you won’t be able to place it how you want. It also means you’re going to need a good deal of space for the monitor as the stand area will be mostly taken up by the SoundBar.

You can elevate or tilt or even remove the monitor for wall mounting

There's plenty of ports on the bottom

Overall, the Huawei MateView GT is an impressive curved monitor for the gamers out there, especially those looking for a built-in soundbar solution. We can certainly see the benefits of having 2 or 3 of these monitors together for a more immersive experience and surround sound but you’ll definitely need a much wider desktop than usual.

That being said, we would have liked it better if it could do 4K resolutions as well and adjust the location of the SoundBar but the MateView GT is still a pretty good curved gaming monitor in it’s own right at RM2488. Other contenders from Prism+ and Xiaomi are also around that same price tag but don’t have the built-in SoundBar.
