It's been a month now since the Huawei P9 and P9 Plus was unveiled to the world, the latest Huawei flagships are the results of the first collaboration between Huawei and the global iconic camera brand Leica back in February. Not only that, the P9 lite also made an appearance in Bali, Indonesia, however it lacks the dual rear Leica camera and is set as an affordable option for the series. The P9 series will be available in Malaysia after the end of May, but prices are yet to be announced and there are no plans for P9 Max for Southeast Asia.

“With more than 90% of consumers identifying cameras as key purchase factor, it is no longer about taking photos. The P9 delivers on the sophisticated needs of consumers in capturing moments and improving the lives of their loves ones,” said Luke Au, Southern Pacific Handset Product Marketing Director at Huawei.

Without further ado, below are the tech-specs and features you need to know about the P9 series:

With the optical design, imaging quality, image data processing, optimization, and the mechanical construction of the camera module to the graphic user interface from the collaboration between Huawei and Leica; the P9 and P9 Plus have set a new benchmark in smartphone camera technology. During the presentation, it was explained that the dual rear lens are built for “synergizing” together; one RGB sensor + one monochrome sensor combining together delivering refined and detailed images.

Aperture editing before saving the image

In Monochrome mode, the shades of black and grey are fairly distinguished from your traditional black and white filter; the user can also choose to highlight which part of the image to be colourless. But perhaps, the coolest part is even controlling the aperture to the likes of a DSLR; the depth of field can be switched between subjects after taking the picture, but not before saving the picture. Other than that, there's also an improved Professional mode in both devices.

The features

The P9 Plus shares the exact same functionality of the P9's camera features, and has five added “Plus” which are the Display Plus, Sound Plus, Power Plus, Selfie Plus and Touch Plus (like Apple's 3D Touch). The Sound Plus is an interesting one because it produces surround sound when it's on horizontal mode, and has Hi-Fidelity sound technology. What's more, the Dual IC Rapid Charging can give 6 hours of talking time just after 10 minutes charging.

Lastly, there's nothing much to say about P9 lite version except that has no Monochrome mode, but despite it being a lite version the specifications are still impressive and should cost lower than both the P9 and P9 Plus.
