Although nothing is confirmed yet, Huawei is reportedly unveiling its new Mate XTs tri-fold smartphone on 12 September in China. It could be the same day as Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 17 series, including the much-anticipated iPhone Fold.
The Tech Specs?
Just like the existing Huawei Mate XT, the Mate XTs stands out with its tri-fold architecture, promising a larger display experience that morphs into a tablet-sized canvas. It is likely to introduce subtle refinements rather than a full redesign, such as:
- New chipset for improved performance (likely a next-gen Kirin SoC)
- Enhanced camera system, possibly with upgraded sensors and XMAGE imaging tech
- Expanded colour palette: Mystic Black, Auspicious Red, Crimson Purple, Bright White
The device is expected to maintain its 10.2-inch unfolded display, powered by Huawei’s X-True 3K resolution panel, offering immersive visuals with a 92% screen-to-body ratio and a 16:11 aspect ratio. Other possible features include an ultra-thin UFG glass, satellite connectivity and others. Lastly, it should be running on HarmonyOS 5.1.
Competitive Climate
What’s turning heads is the price point: the Mate XTs could retail for around 20,000 Yuan (~RM11.8K), making it significantly more expensive than Apple’s rumoured iPhone Fold, which is expected to start at 15,999 Yuan (~RM9.4K). This positions Huawei’s device firmly in the ultra-premium category, likely targeting tech enthusiasts and early adopters with deep pockets.
Interestingly, Huawei’s first tri-fold, the Mate XT, sold over 500,000 units in China despite its steep price, proving there’s a viable market for ultra-premium foldables. We shall wait and see when both Huawei and Apple announce their upcoming event in September 2025. Stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
