Huawei could be planning to release three new foldable phones this year

At the moment, Samsung is the only one that's selling foldable phones commercially around the world but Huawei might be able to join that race soon. It has been reported by Digitimes that the company is planning to launch three new foldable devices in the second half of 2021. Huawei is also known for the Mate X series but let's see what else we can expect.

Besides Digitimes, some industry sources are also saying that the so-called upcoming Huawei foldable phones could be priced lower than usual. The reason being is that they want to target the entry-level segment which can potentially stir the demand for foldable phones.

That said, we aren't sure what they mean by "entry-level". For comparison, the Mate X was first priced at over ~RM10,000 two years ago so it's quite hard to imagine for it to go much lower. Perhaps at best, it could go down to the current flagship price tag of over RM4000. We shall see.

Digitimes Research is estimating that if all goes well, foldable phone shipments could reach seven million units this year. It's more than double the number of shipments last year of 2.8 million. Foldable smartphones will eventually be the norm but it's gonna take a long time. Stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
