Huawei could be working on a new inward foldable smartphone

So far in the smartphone industry, only Samsung and Huawei are producing and selling foldable smartphones out in the markets. We are expecting Samsung to release their next Galaxy Fold 2 soon in August and just recently, reports suggest that Huawei is looking into making the Mate V as an inward foldable device.

Spotted as a new trademark that was applied in the EU, this new foldable device was previously dubbed as the Mate X2. From the design patent, the Mate V overall design is more or less the same as the Mate X, just that it will be folded inward like a book. On that note, the design patent was also quite recent with the date signed on 28 April 2020.

That said, this signals that the device might be coming soon and perhaps around the same time as the next Mate 50 series. If we look back at the annual event dates, Huawei would present their newest flagship in October so I guess we can expect more leaks in the coming weeks beforehand.
