It's not often that smartphone brands go into the automobile line. So far, Apple is the only one that is working on a futuristic Apple Car but it seems that Huawei is also hopping on. Just recently, Huawei was spotted registering MATEDRIVE trademark.

Under application number 53374978, the registration description in the image below involves "driving, transmission (or drive) device". On top of that, sources have noted that Huawei has been submitting driving-related information on a frequent basis. Just last August, Huawei also held a Huawei Autopilot Network Technology Summit in Suzhou about self-driving technologies.

Then in last July, Huawei was testing out a self-driving method and system that analyzes the driver's driving behaviour and surroundings for safe driving. It was done pretty much in secrecy, as the only news that we recall was the company using a Mate 10 Pro as an AI-driven smartphone to drive a car. Anyway, with the trademark applied, it marks the first time that Huawei is serious about the automobile industry.

It should take a few years for a "Huawei Car" to showcase, or maybe they have a surprise waiting for us. We shall see, stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
