In a move to make more revenue, Huawei has been reported to be selling its chipsets to 3rd parties which include competitor smartphone companies. The first chip that may be sold to the open market is their HiSilicon Balong 711 chipset.

Huawei CEO, Ren Zhengfei, has apparently mentioned in an interview that they are open to selling their 5G chips to rival smartphone companies which include OPPO, vivo and even Apple. No doubt that this move could hurt Qualcomm’s business as Chinese brands such as OPPO, vivo and even Xiaomi may opt for a local supplier after the US-China trade war.

The HiSilicon Balong 711 chipset is a 4G chip and it is not their latest one, released in 2014. However, the chip mentioned is able to power security cameras, vending machines and more. Last month alone, HiSilicon had developed a line of chips which are used in 4K smart TVs. It supports an impressive 4K 60fps.

So, with this move, can we see Huawei climb to be the biggest chipset supplier in the world? Let us know. Keep up with the latest Huawei news on TechNave.com!
