The Walt Disney Company has announced a major change to its streaming strategy. Beginning 8 October 2025, Hulu will officially serve as the global general entertainment brand within Disney+, taking over from Star in international markets.
This move marks another step toward Disney’s vision of a fully unified streaming experience, integrating its brands under one platform. The rollout will include a refreshed interface, new navigation features, and deeper content integration across Disney+.
What’s Changing for Disney+ Users
Disney+ will begin introducing a redesigned interface to accommodate the Hulu integration. The update introduces a new navigation bar and a “For You” tab — a personalised hub featuring curated recommendations for each user. Subscribers will also notice dedicated sections for Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN (depending on regional availability and plan type).

A new Live hub will make it easier for users to access live sports, news, and events directly from the app, creating a seamless streaming experience across all forms of entertainment. Additionally, Disney+ will introduce dynamic visual tags such as “New Series,” “Season Finale,” and “New Movie” to help users keep track of the latest releases. The homepage itself will also receive a facelift, featuring cinematic poster-style artwork, an improved Hero carousel, and a more visually rich layout.
Smarter Recommendations, Smarter Profiles
Disney is also revamping its personalisation engine to make content discovery more intuitive. The updated algorithm will learn from each user’s viewing habits and refine the recommendations displayed in the “For You” section.

Profiles will now take centre stage in the interface, ensuring that every member of a household sees suggestions and watchlists tailored to their unique preferences. This upgrade highlights Disney’s ongoing push to make its streaming experience more personal and data-driven.
Mobile Experience Enhancements and Beyond
In addition to the interface changes, Disney is improving the mobile experience for Disney+ users. The update introduces iOS widgets, allowing viewers to jump straight into their favourite shows and movies from their home screens.
The company also teased further mobile-first features currently in development, hinting at exclusive tools and engagement options designed to enhance interaction on smaller screens. While many of these updates will also appear on TV and desktop apps, Disney clearly views mobile users as a key audience for its next phase of streaming growth.
In Malaysia, we are not sure when we will see the new facelift design. But that's a nice change to the UI and streamlining the name. We expect Astro and Unifi to make the changes accordingly as well in the days to come. Stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
