I've never really understood why some people insist on placing their RM5000 and above smartphone in their back jeans pocket and then sit on it repeatedly. And when the phone bends or gets damaged, they blame the phone's durability. Go figure, right?
In any case, quite a few people have been waiting for Zack at JerryRigEverything to take the Apple iPhone Air through his durability test. This is probably because of the rather infamous “bendgate” back in 2014 involving the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
Did the iPhone Air bend?
While you can check out the video for yourself above, the titanium frame iPhone Air DIDN'T bend under Zack's hands, just like when he did his bend test on the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge. However, with the iPhone Air he took it a step further showing just how much pressure would be needed to actually bend the iPhone Air.
It turns out, the amount of pressure needed to bend the iPhone Air is actually 216lbs or 97.976kg. Still, as Zack points out, weight is distributed differently when people sit down, so you probably don't need to worry about the iPhone Air's durability in your pants pocket. But, we'd still say you probably should take better care of your brand new ultra-thin smartphone in the first place.
Congratulations Apple and Samsung!
Still, it's great to know that both Apple and Samsung have found out how to make ultra-thin smartphones that don't bend from bare hands. It's a good indication for all the other upcoming ultra-thin smartphones expected to be released soon.
What do you think? We're thrilled that lighter and thinner smartphones are making a comeback as the handfeel alone should be well worth it. Hopefully, brands will find less expensive but just as strong materials (graphene?) soon but until then, stay tuned to TechNave.com
