Besides paying for tolls and public transportation, you can’t really do much else with the money stored inside your Touch ’n Go card. While many would assume that the remaining balance would be lost forever if the card is stolen, damaged or expired, this is actually not the case, as Touch ’n Go allows users to request a cash refund for the remaining balance online.

In fact, you can even request to terminate a Touch ’n Go card before its expiry date and get the money stored inside refunded to you. This can all be done via the Touch ‘n Go card portal here, so read on to learn more.

Your Touch 'n Go card must be registered first

To be eligible for refunds, your Touch ’n Go card must first be registered under your Touch ’n Go card account. Do note that this is different from a Touch ‘n Go eWallet account or a Touch ’n Go RFID account.

Register for an account if you haven’t yet here. Then, you can add your Touch ’n Go card by clicking on the “Add Card(s) and Charm(s)” option under the “Cards & Charms” submenu.

To register your card, insert your Touch ‘n Go card serial number, which is usually found on the back of your Touch ’n Go card right beside its expiration date. Once the card is registered, use the same portal to request a cash refund for any remaining balance inside the card.

How to request a refund for your remaining balance

To initiate a refund request, select the “Refund Request” option on the Touch 'n Go card portal under the “Refunds” submenu. Accordingly, there are 3 types of refund requests available for Touch 'n Go card owners: Card Termination, Missing Value and Overcharged - Penalty.

This article will only be discussing refund requests for lost, damaged, expired or stolen cards, so we’ll only be focusing on the “Card Termination” option. Speaking of which, once you've selected “Card Termination” from the drop-down menu, Touch 'n Go will ask you to select which of your registered cards you want to get a refund from.

It will then provide you with 6 options for termination reasons. These include Voluntary Termination, Lost, Stolen, Dormant, Bad Chips/Faulty and Expired Cards.

Here’s what each option entails:

After selecting one of the 6 options, you can also add any remarks regarding the refund request under the termination reason. However, do note that for stolen Touch 'n Go cards, the amount eligible for refund will be based on the available card balance on the date of the refund form submission.

Choose where you want the refund to be credited to

After you’ve entered your termination reason and any additional remarks, Touch ‘n Go will give you 3 options on where the cash refund would be credited. These include a transfer to your bank account, a transfer via DuitNow or to your Touch ’n Go eWallet.

Please note that for the bank account option, Touch ‘n Go will only credit the refund if the name of the bank account holder is the same as the one registered to your Touch ’n Go card account. Meanwhile, for transfer via DuitNow, any DuitNow account will be accepted. As for refund requests to be credited to your Touch ’n Go eWallet account, you must provide the mobile number linked to the said account.

After you've provided all the required information correctly, tick the agreement prompt at the bottom of the page and press submit. You’ll then receive email approval from Touch 'n Go, and afterwards, your request will be processed within 14 days for a standard refund, while a complex refund may take up to 30 days from the date of your refund application.
