Independent test may have cast doubts on durability of the foldable Motorola Razr

In this new era of foldable devices, the inevitable question that arises is: How durable are the hinges? This is an important factor for such devices because they will probably be folded and unfolded many times in a day. But a recent independent test may suggest that the new Motorola Razr may not be all that durable, at least not as much as customers would like.

In a new test conducted by CNET, the folding durability of the Motorola Razr was put through its paces. However, the FoldBot machine - created to test how many times the Samsung Galaxy Fold can fold - used in this test was probably unoptimised. Even at the early stages of the test, it had trouble folding the device all the way. Later on, the device started to have a stronger resistance to folding, which suggest that there may be an issue with the hinges or folding mechanism. Eventually, the test was terminated at 27000 folds.

Does this mean that the new Motorola Razr's folding durability is bad? Not exactly. The FoldBot could have been the cause behind the folding mechanism going stiff. Motorola has come out to assure people that the company is confident with the durability of the device and we doubt a company like Motorola would sell a defective product. Doing so would only hurt the company's reputation.

Regardless, we believe that CNET's test shows that there's a chance the folding mechanism could become stiff over time, something that Motorola should look into. But what do you think about this, are you planning to buy this and would be concerned about this issue? Let us know on our Facebook page and follow us on TechNave.com for more updates.
