The Indonesian Government has revealed that Apple is currently banned from officially selling the Apple iPhone 16 Series in the country. The nation’s Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita confirmed that Apple won’t be allowed into Indonesia until the company fulfils a few requirements first.
As reported by CNBC Indonesia, Agus said that the tech giant has yet to fulfil its investment commitments in Indonesia and renew the TKDN, the country’s local content requirement certification. He added that Apple had only realised IDR1.48 trillion or ~RM405.76 million of its total commitment of IDR1.71 trillion or ~RM467.5 million.
Furthermore, Apple’s TKDN validity has also expired and for the company to renew the licence, it must realise its investment commitments. The Industry Minister also alluded that Apple may potentially have to make additional investments for TKDN to be renewed.
Agus further elaborated that after this is fulfilled, Apple would be eligible for a 40% TKDN value. This would enable the entry of the iPhone 16 Series and other Apple products using mobile networks into the Indonesian market.
