Indonesia bans Temu and asks Google and Apple to block the app because its prices are too cheap

The Indonesian Government has requested Google and Apple to block the Chinese e-commerce app Temu in the country on the Play Store and App Store, respectively. This comes after the country banned Temu from operating in the country due to its prices of goods that are too low.

According to Reuters, Indonesia Communications Minister Budi Arie Setiadi said that the move was made pre-emptively before Temu could be accessed by Indonesians to protect the country’s small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). He added that Temu’s practice of connecting consumers with factories in China for significantly lower prices is “unhealthy competition” and would affect millions of SMEs in the country.

Indonesia will also block any investment by Temu in local e-commerce companies, should it make such a move. Last year, Indonesia also banned TikTok Shop for a similar reason.
