For many of us, mobile devices and laptops have become our everyday. We use them so much for work and entertainment that we could be stuck on a screen for hours. Those hours are sometimes outdoors or somewhere without a convenient wall plug, which is when an alternative charging solution is required.
A popular choice would be a battery pack, or what we Malaysians typically refer to as a power bank. One such power bank would be the Innergie Magnetic Battery Pack, which we tested recently. Honoured with the 2024 Japan Good Design Award, this device is more than a simple small box with a single port for charging. Here's our short review of the Innergie 10200mAh Qi2 45W Magnetic Battery Pack.

Appearance-wise, the Innergie Magnetic Battery Pack is about what you'd expect. It looks like a white rectangular case, giving it a simple but clean look. The battery cells inside this power bank are custom-molded, allowing for a more compact size. Its dimensions also ensure that your phone's camera won't be blocked, so thumbs up for that.
There are three charging outlets for this battery pack. The wireless charging coil is at the bottom, with enough surface area to support smartphones and smaller devices like earbuds that support wireless charging. On the left, you'll find two USB-C ports for charging output. One of the ports also doubles as the input port used for charging the battery pack.

Even though the design and specifications are nearly identical, the 10200mAh variant of the magnetic battery back probably offers the best value (compared to the 5100mAh variant). The additional USB-C port makes a notable difference, as the battery pack supports pass-through. In other words, you can charge the battery while charging two other devices simultaneously. This can be useful in places lacking power sockets, so you can minimise your charging setup.
Another benefit of the 10200mAh variant is the combo input/output USB-C port's maximum output, which is 45W instead of 20W. The higher output allows you to charge your device faster or charge power-hungry devices like laptops. It also supports PD3.0, so you can charge devices faster.
For reference, most power banks of a similar size or capacity offer between 20 to 27W of charging output, so 45W is pretty good. With my Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, which has a 5000mAh battery and supports 45W charging, the battery can recharge from 19 to 80% in 34 minutes.

On the other hand, the 45W charging output isn't optimal for laptops, as you ideally want 60W or above. 10200mAh isn't large enough to fully recharge most laptops either. But if your laptop's battery is running dry and you need to keep it running for a few more minutes, this battery pack works well for that.
As for wireless charging, the Innergie magnetic battery pack does what its name suggests. It has a dual-sided magnetic design compatible with selected devices, such as a MagSafe-compatible iPhone or folding stands. Its magnets are very strong, with the front side capable of securely holding up to 1.1kg devices, while the back magnet can support weights of up to 900g. For example, you could attach an iPhone to the front and an earbuds case to the back, charging both simultaneously.
Since it's a Qi2-certified wireless charging power bank, it's also compatible with some of the newer Samsung Galaxy S series smartphones but a magnetic case is required. The wireless charging is solid, but at 15W it's slower than the wired charging. It took 1 hour 39 minutes to recharge the battery from 24 to 80%.

Overall, we were quite satisfied with the 10200mAh capacity Innergie magnetic battery pack. It's a no-nonsense accessory that works well and is reliable, making it great for those who don't always have a power socket around to plug their devices in. The powerbank has also passed SIRIM certification, so you know it's safe to use.
Besides that, its PCR plastic outer case makes it durable and sustainable for prolonged use. It's even relatively compact and light, making it convenient when you're out and need to charge various devices. If you need a solid power bank for daily use, you can't go wrong with the Innergie Magnetic Battery Pack.
