If you frequently use Instagram and Threads, this news might interest you. Recently, Instagram announced it might limit the visibility of political content on both platforms. That said, what should you know about it?

For your information, Meta is expanding on its Reels policy. If everything goes smoothly, Meta might limit political content from people you’re not following. That includes posts about social issues too. This is what Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram says about it:

“Our goal is to preserve the ability for people to choose to interact with political content while respecting each person’s appetite for it”.

Additionally, this update will roll out gradually and it could arrive on Facebook in the upcoming weeks. However, should you prefer content that is “likely to mention governments, elections, or social topics that affect a group of people and/or society at large”? You can turn off this feature in the settings.

Moreover, this change only applies to public accounts when it is enabled. It is also available in places where the content is being recommended. That includes Explore, Reels, in-feed recommendations, and suggested users. Interestingly, the update won’t change how you view content from accounts you choose to follow.

Therefore, accounts that are not eligible to be recommended will still be able to post political content to their followers. We have yet to confirm other details on the subject. So, it will be interesting to see what Meta plans in the upcoming weeks.
