The BBC reported that Instagram is removing its end-to-end encryption (E2EE) feature starting today, May 8, 2026. The E2EE feature was removed because not many people used it when sending messages on the Instagram service. That said, what should you know about it?
Meta already announced this last March
For your information, the original announcement of the withdrawal of this feature was made by Meta last March. Alternatively, Meta is asking users to switch to WhatsApp if they want to use E2EE support in messaging. With full encryption support, messages sent cannot be read by others and can only be read by the sender and recipient.
As of now, there are no further details on the news. So, we should wait for more announcements from Meta..
