Instagram has introduced a new feature called ‘Quiet Mode’ on its mobile app which the platform dubbed as ‘a new way to manage your time and focus’. When turned on, the feature will mute all notifications and send an auto-reply to anyone sending you a direct message (DM) on the app.

Announced on Meta’s Newsroom, Instagram said that it will specifically prompt teen users to toggle on Quiet Mode when they spend ‘a specific amount of time” on the app late at night. Furthermore, Quiet Mode will also be shown on your profile to notify other users that you’re using the feature so that they won’t disturb you or know that you won’t be seeing DMs from them.

Speaking of which, a summary of all notifications that you’ve missed will be shown to you once you return to the app. Quiet Mode can also be scheduled by users to turn on automatically at specific times.

Besides that, Instagram is also introducing several other changes to the app. These include:

  • Hiding multiple pieces of content in Explore at one time
  • Hiding recommended posts you might see across Instagram with a word or list of words, emojis or hashtags that you want to avoid
