While surfing on your social media apps can be relaxing, it can also be tiring due to the kind of content you like to see online. Just a few hours ago, Adam Mosseri (Instagram CEO) just announced that the Instagram team will be testing out a new "Take a Break" feature.
As the name applies, it does what you think it does, said Mosseri in his Twitter post. How does this work? Simple, let's say after surfing on Instagram for a long period and eventually, you would come across the "Want a break?" which you can opt to turn on or not. At the moment, the beta test reveals between 10 to 30 minutes break.
Testing “Take a Break”

We started testing a new feature called “Take a Break” this week. This opt-in control enables you to receive break reminders in-app after a duration of your choosing.
I’m excited to dig into the results & hopefully launch this sometime in December. pic.twitter.com/WdSTjL6ZdH
The Instagram team is currently working with third-party experts on how to best utilise this feature and even gives some suggestions. From the Twitter video, the app would remind you to take a deep breath to do something else on your to-do list. Only a small percentage of Instagram users are testing it now and if it works, it will be rolling out globally to everyone.
Mosseri emphasised that this feature is an effort to give people more control to use Instagram on their terms. Should it succeed, it should take about two months or so for the new update. At the earliest lunch, "Take a Break" could launch sometime in December as well.
