Instagram now supports photos with a 3:4 aspect ratio

Instagram today started supporting the display of photos with a 3:4 ratio. Adam Mosseri himself announced this via Threads. By default, all photos taken with a phone camera have a 3:4 ratio when taken vertically. Meanwhile, Instagram has, since its inception, supported the 1:1 ratio, as it follows the ratio of Polaroid film, before later supporting 16:9 and 4:3 ratios.

For your information, when vertical photos were uploaded, the original image was cropped to fit into the frame with a 4:5 ratio. This affected the original composition of the photo taken. This change will allow 3:4 photos to be uploaded without having to be edited first. This feature is available today on the Android and iOS apps in Malaysia.

Well, that’s all we know for now. Who knows? Instagram might release more exciting updates like this soon.
