Instagram is rolling out a minor update that takes away Stories reactions from direct messages (DMs). It's said to declutter the DMs by relocating the reactions to the other corner.
Users will soon find a new heart icon sitting between the send message pill and send button (paper plane icon) for them to react to Stories. After tapping on it, the authors of the Stories will find the reactions within the viewer sheet right next to the user names. Therefore, don't be sad if you find no one reacting to your Stories in DMs, as they have been moved to the other place.
Private Story Likes

Starting to roll out today, you can now send some love by liking people’s stories without sending a DM.
Likes on stories are private and do not have counts. Rather, they appear as hearts next to people’s handles in your Stories view sheet. pic.twitter.com/l56Rmzgnnw
"The idea here is to make sure that people can express more support for each other, but also to clean up DMs a little bit," said Instagram chief Adam Mosseri. Besides that, the social media platform is also looking to increase the duration of Reels from 60 seconds to 90 seconds
to keep up with TikTok, which currently offers up to 3 minutes of continuous recording.
